Walk along the beach at New Quay
Dylan Thomas lived in New Quay in 1944- 1945. It is believed that many of the characters for his last play Under Milk Wood were drawn from New Quay and not Laugharne. The Dylan Thomas trail takes visitors to many of the places he frequented during his stay. The Edge of Love which depicted the life and loves of Dylan Thomas was filmed in New Quay.
From the pier at New Quay you can watch for bottle nosed dolphins which can be seen most days in the summer. The area has Red Kites and Choughs together with many various species of sea birds which can be seen from Bird Rock. The wildlife and flora is best seen from the many coastal paths in the area.
The walk from New Quay to Cwm Tydu and Llangrannog takes you along the coastal path with spectacular scenery overlooking Cardigan Bay. On clear days you can see the Lleyn Peninsula together with Bardsey Island and the mountains of Snowdonia and Cader Idris. The coastal path can be accessed from New Quay at the end of the town.
New Quay has numerous restaurants and public houses serving food. The Penwig Hotel, Wellington, Dolau, Black Lion, Queens Hotel and Sea Horse together with restaurants The Hungry Trout, Port of Call, Royal Indian Brasserie and Fish Cafes along the waterfront to name a few.
The town has a small supermarket, hairdressing and beautician, National Westminster bank, souvenir shops and a number of village shops including freshly caught fish.
The award winning beach at New Quay offers boat trips daily in the season. There are watersports facilities for hire including lasers, windsurfers, and canoes. Lessons can be booked by prior arrangement. Wetsuits and equipment are supplied.
Aberaeron is some 7 miles away and is an attractive Regency town. The picturesque town boast many coloured houses and pretty harbour. The award winning Harbour masters restaurant and Bee Hive cafe can be found there.
Further afield are the university town of Aberystwyth and Devils Bridge which can be accessed by the narrow gauge Vale of Rydal steam train.
